The first Green River Rondy Sled Dog Race was held in 2000. The race is back for another New Year's celebration, to be held Saturday and Sunday, December 30 & 31, 2006.

It promises to be two days of great fun on the scenic Green River north of Pinedale, Wyoming. The course is on Bridger-Teton National Forest, partly riding on the Continental Divide Snowmobile Trail on the road to Green River Lakes. There is an $8,600 guaranteed purse.

While maintaining the traditional 6-dog class of past Rondys, a 12-dog class has been added to the roster, with both courses running over and along the scenic Upper Green River Valley.

The 12-dog course runs directly past Kendall Warm Springs, a unique spring that is home to the endangered Kendall Dace, a tiny fish that lives only in this short stretch of warm springs that flows over a waterfalls into the Green River. The entire area is very scenic and parallels the headwaters of the Green River.

In honor of the western heritage and pride of Sublette County, the Rondy uses local ranchers' livestock brands to replace numbers on the musher's race bibs. Many thanks to the ranches who are supporting this race and allowing us to use their brands! There will be a Calcutta on Friday, December 29, at 7:00 pm at Bottoms Up Brewery in Pinedale to auction off the mushers. Andy Nelson, Cowboy DJ of the Year, will be the auctioneer. Proceeds will benefit the McKenzie Meningitis Foundation in Pinedale.

There is good parking and turn around space at the start/finish line of the race, which is located right at the forest boundary on US. Hwy 352, approximately 25 miles past Cora. The staging area is also the parking area for snowmachiners using the Continental Divide Trail. Restrooms are located at the parking lot area. Nearest gas, lodging and other services can be obtained in Pinedale, 31 miles from the race site.

Entry fee is $65.00 per class. All dogs entered must have current Distemper, Parvo and Rabies vaccinations. See Race Rules document for complete race rules and entry information.

Spectators are requested to not bring their pets as it is a distraction to the sled dogs.
